New Age thinking has, for several years, been promising us a return to the 'Golden Age'. A time of prosperity, abundance, fairness, equality, and justice for all. But how do we get into this new 'Golden Age'? Do we physically walk into it (BUMP)? Or is it something energetic, subtle, hidden?
As we look around us with our physical eyes in the early days of 2024, what has changed?
At the time that I write this, there is still the prospect of the war in Gaza spilling out unimpeded across the Middle East, as no one in the West seems to be shouting loudly enough or exerting sufficient pressure to check the warring parties who appear to have put blood lust and revenge above all else, and to hell with the consequences for the world. The war in Ukraine is spluttering away, thanks to certain Western political divisions that fancy themselves as armchair critics, sadly believing that nothing will touch them or their country as they wait for their misguided 'messiah' to appear. Armchair thinking lends itself to positing "why should they help their allies in their hours of need when their only strategy is one of extreme isolationism"? Where did the fine principles of co-operation and 'loving thy neighbour' disappear to? And when will they return?
In the UK, our junior doctors are on strike today, for their longest walkout in the "history of the National Health Service" (six days apparently). It is wrong for them to claim that they are paid £X per hour, as they are salaried and therefore are expected, as are all salaried employees, to work until the job is completed. The figure quoted by the BMA to support its case for industrial action is flawed as junior doctors are not paid by the hour at all, and the figures quoted are for their basic salary and does not include the additional payments for oncall or overtime work. Yes, it's emotive & dramatic to say that their pay-rate has fallen and that they deserve more. So do most people. When choosing their calling or career, surely junior doctors considered the possibility that their career in public service would only be rich for them in terms of research or when they reached the giddy heights of being Consultants or even when they retired as there is a good Pension for them for older age? But of course, that means having to save and wait for something in the future, rather than joining forces with the wider population and demanding that they want things "NOW". How did Society move from caring to grasping in just three generations? In terms of the current economic climate, it is hard to see how their walkout is a win for anyone apart from the private health companies. The junior doctors' walkout isn't a win for them, as they lose pay over their action. It isn't a win for the patients who have to wait even longer to be assessed, treated, discharged and followed up. It isn't a win for any Government to find healthcare impacted in this manner. The only win that I can see is that it spurs patients who can afford it, into the open arms of the private health companies and private hospitals, where profit wins out each time. So what advantage is there, truly, for the junior doctors?
So returning to New Age thinking. The New Age, with the transition from the astrological Piscean era to the ultra rational Aquarian era, that we seem to be stumbling our way towards, believes that the new golden era will herald the way for justice where before there has only been injustice, extremism, isolationism, and nationalism; charity where there has been greed; and where an overall rebalancing of Societal values and changes in attitude will occur. However, the bit that seems to be forgotten in all the ideals, is the process. The birth canal. The process of birthing the new era. Surely, that is what we are seeing in the world around us. Now.
To reach this point in our collective history we have to traverse an external landscape riddled with violence, blood, warfare, implosion of economies, environmental disasters, significant loss of life, hate speech etc.....an awakening that is occurring on a literal biblical scale, as well as the internal awakening process that is occurring now, though we may not have been quite aware of what has been happening, though we have seen the extraordinary events occurring all around us each time we read or switch on news channels.
So let me ask you now. How are you fareing? How are you feeling? Are you still sleepwalking your way towards the energetic ruminations and birthing of the new era? Or are you waking up, and feeling your way, coming into what seems to be a nightmare world where perceived security in former things, is a thing of the past?
To make it through this period of life, as it evolves and whirls and whistles all around us, ever-changing in every given moment, one needs to develop internal, inner, spiritual strengh. Nothing less is going to get you through and out the other side of what is coming.
Awaken! Wake up! Gargle! The world needs you! This is our time. Yours and mine. We are here, alive, and on the planet for a reason.
